The Underground Youth What Kind Of Dystopian Hellhole Is This Artwork Fuzz Club LP

What Kind Of Dystopian Hellhole Is This? is the eighth LP from Berlin-via-Manchester outfit The Underground Youth and is officially out now, you can pick it up on CD, LP and cassette in our store. TUY's latest effort see’s the psychedelic post-punk lynchpins at their most accomplished and haunting, you can stream it in full below.

The LP is ten tracks of foreboding and haunting beautiful psychedelic post-punk, with gloomy gothic undertones at times and an insatiable, dreamy pop sensibility at others. Similar to the band's extensive back-catalogue, What Kind Of Dystopian Hellhole Is This? is an unapologetic ode to the band's many influences; whether that be cinema and literature, or bands like BJM, Spacemen 3, The Velvet Underground and singer-songwriters such as Nick Cave and Bob Dylan.

This album manages to be both nostalgic and full to the brim with a self-aware pastiche but delivered in a way that is true to The Underground Youth’s unique and gloriously dark noise.

Craig began writing the album when he moved to Berlin in early 2016 and it was recorded over the space of a couple of weeks, with appearances from current live band members (Max James, Olya Dyer & Mark Vernon) and guest vocals by Faith Vernon of Manchester band PINS.

When asked about the story behind the album Craig explained that “a lot of the albums themes and songs are based on the social and political climate of 2016 and the changes that it has brought about” - this is particularly evident in stand-out tracks ‘Amerika’ and ‘Beast (Anti-War Song)’. Another highlight of the album is the jangling first single ‘Alice’

In support of the new album, The Underground Youth are in the middle of an extensive European tour, you can find the tour dates below - if they're playing near you be sure not to miss it. If you're in London make sure you're at the LP launch on March 8th at Moth Club, you can pick up tickets here.
