Taking cues from The Velvet Underground, 13th Floor Elevators and The Stooges by way of Neil Young, Bob Dylan and Muddy Waters, the record sees the band carve out eight songs of raw, back-to-basics rock’n’roll that marries white-knuckle garage-blues, psychedelic repetition and sun-baked alt-country to create “something new with an old soul”. Now, though, he’s based in Los Angeles and finds himself backed by a new line-up of musicians. ‘Same Old Line’ was cooked up in new drummer Dash’s garage and recorded over the course of a few days and nights straight to a Tascam tape machine. Jeff recalls: “This is the first album recorded with a new lineup after I moved from San Francisco to Los Angeles. At the time of recording we werenʼt sure if this would be a Spyrals album or something under a different name. At some point during the mixing process I decided to keep moving on under the Spyrals name, so to me this album is a real turning point in the band’s history.” The result is a record that’s just as rooted in the sounds of Nashville and the Mississippi Delta as it is the band’s West Coast garage-rock forebears.

Arriving off the back of this year's 'This Can Only Lead To Chaos' LP, Glasgow's Helicon are gearing up to release a Fuzz Club Session on December 18th. The new full-length sees Craig and band trade their acerbic post-punk melancholy for a more refined and stripped-back sound that, instead, enters the world of romantic, shadowy folk-noir. A marked departure from the primal intensity often heard on the band’s previous work, ‘The Falling’ showcases a softer, more cinematic musical landscape shaped by acoustic guitars, piano, accordion and a heavy presence of violin and string arrangements. It’s not just the instrumentation and atmospherics that have undergone a transformation on this record, it is also Craig’s most sincere and introspective work to date. “Lyrically this album finds me at my most honest and autobiographical. I still shroud the reality of what I have written within something of a fictional setting, but the honesty and the romance that shines throughout the record is more sincere than it has been in my previous work. The idea was to strip back the band to allow for lyrical breathing space”, Craig reflects on the album.

With the original plans of heading into the studio upon their return from their 2020 USA tour grinding to a halt – the tour cancelled midway through due to the Covid-19 outbreak and followed by months of isolation in their Berlin apartments – the album is also very much a product of the distressing and unfamiliar world we now find ourselves in. As a result of the pandemic, ‘The Falling’ was recorded between Craig and guitarist/producer Leo Kaage’s apartments-turned-home-studios (also in the band is Craig’s wife, the artist Olya Dyer, and Max James, who formerly played in Johnny Marr’s live band): “The album sees me going back to my writing approach from our earliest records, writing the demos as stripped back acoustic tracks at home. What started out as a set of romantic and deeply personal songs also took on the surrounding frustrations and feelings towards the situation we found ourselves in. Born from the heartbreak of how the worldwide pandemic has changed the industry we were thriving within, this album also functions as a love letter to the past.”

Fuzz Club members will receive the exclusive white vinyl as part of the January 2021 membership package.

- - - - - -

Up until disbanding last year – announced via a social media post saying they “were off to get some smokes” – Oakland cosmonauts Lumerians were one of the most prolific and genre-bending bands to reside on the outer edges of contemporary psychedelia. Recorded live at Love Buzz Productions and pressed to 180gm vinyl, Lumerians’ Fuzz Club Session LP – due for release January 29th – is comprised of four tracks, new and old. 'Longwave' and 'Corkscrew Trepanation' are lifted from the band's 2011 Partisan Records-released 'Transmalinna' LP and their 2008 self-titled debut EP, respectively. The song never really had a name, but since we used it as a way to signal the show was beginning and draw people towards the stage, 'Light the Beacon' seemed appropriate for this version." 'Transmission Overture', on the other hand, was a spontaneous composition that they'd never played before and haven't since: "This is basically the process by which we wrote all of our songs. We'd record our improvisations, listen back and then select the parts that stood out most and learn how to play it again. The follow-up to their 2020 self-titled debut album marks a number of changes for the band. Not only have they upped sticks and moved from Mexico City to Berlin, but their sound has undergone a process of evolution too. Where the debut LP was an exercise in mesmerising Krautrock channeling the likes of Neu! and Can, ‘El Refugio’ keeps hold of that motorik pulse but trades the debut’s more expansive and hypnotic tendencies for a collection of dark, wiry post-punk vignettes. The album is a more skeletal effort than its predecessor but packs a greater punch precisely because of that; the songs are shorter and unapologetically to-the-point, brimming with a tension and anguish that makes ‘El Refugio’ a deeply affecting listen. “The biggest influence on this record was the fact that our personal lives had a radical change and we felt the need to do something different, to dig deeper into the possibilities of what the band was about. We never wanted to make the same record twice. The songs allude to childhood, dreams, desire, loneliness, paranoia and hope. A longing for a different reality that breaks the monotony of daily life."

‘El Refugio’ is still driven by the taut, propulsive rhythm sections of their earlier work – see the driving motorik post-punk of ‘Extrarradio’, ‘Me Persigue’ and ‘Exilio’, or the death disco grooves of ‘Solsticio’ – but the surrounding instrumentation owes far more to 70s punk and new wave than any kosmische travellers. Whilst melodic bass lines propel the music in a perpetual forward motion, guitars flicker from angular and razor-sharp to shimmering and forlorn, peppered by the ambient whirr of synths that oscillate subtly in the background throughout. All the while Lucas Martín’s monotonous sprechgesang vocal (delivered in Spanish throughout) give the tracks a foreboding and ghostly allure. The band still have their hypnotic moments, mind. On slow-burning moments like ‘Soldados Caidos’ and ‘El Peso De La Piel’, Sei Still trade in a desolate, mournful goth-rock and the ethereal title-track ‘El Refugio’ is a shoegaze-indebted comedown that brings the album to a hauntingly beautiful close.

Limited edition 12" featuring remixes of songs from Flying Moon In Space's debut album by Xiu Xiu, A Place To Bury Strangers, Suuns, Camera, Minami Deutsch and Warm Graves. This seven-year gestation between the two albums brings with it a transformation in the creative process of Warm Graves, much like the human body exchanges its cells every seven years – our human bodies being both the same and wholly other. “For me, ‘Ease’ always comes back to the idea of transformation”, Wehner says: “In this case, from struggle to ease, choirs to whispers, rush to patience, light to dark. Those 7 years didn’t pass lightly. Life took a lot of turns and I had a lot to learn. The transitions in this new album are more violent than before, expressing the difficult personal and social upheavals of its composition period. The choir is now absent and Wehner’s own voice assumes a more central, hypnotic stance. The soundscapes of the first album make way for something darker and a concentration of melody into a single voice – a voice no longer collective, but embodying both isolation and intimacy. "I've lit my own fate", Wehner sings in ‘Sun Escape’. We always try to make something new on each album and never make the same album over again, but this feels like an even bigger change than usual, especially regarding the mood. At times percussive and dancey, at others hypnotic and cinematic, the largely synthesiser-driven soundscapes of 'L’Orée' feel both of the past and the future. It’s the sound of two different worlds – a record capable of being as primal and ritualistic as it is synthesised and digitally manipulated. Where the band’s prior minimal Krautrock (see their 2019 ‘Sinie Sinie’ LP) might have brought to mind cold, dark post-industrial cities, ‘L’Orée’s kosmische experimentalism takes you instead on an instrumental journey through the natural wilderness via the medium of shape-shifting psychedelic electronics.

That ‘L’Orée’ explores a more natural and organic sound than heard on their previous releases owes largely to the environment it was made in. Recorded in a tucked-away house in the French countryside that bordered on a surrounding forest, Ashinoa recall sessions spent soaking up their surroundings with a number of collaborators coming in and out to perform on the record: “The house we recorded the album in was kind of in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by douglas pine trees. From this proximity to the forest, we wanted to take our soundscapes to a place we’ve never been before. Before we were surrounded by concrete, and then far from it. We were looking for a new listening place, to discover new intriguing sounds. We had laid down the basis of the album and then musician friends that would visit us at the time were invited to participate in the making of the album, each one of them bringing a touch of their own.”

Since forming in 2015, the French five-piece comprised of Chris Poincelot, Matteo Fabbri, Jérémy Labarre, Paul Renard and Ghazi Frini have been at the forefront of the alternative scene in their home city of Lyon. Borne out of a desire to offer up a more uplifting and hedonistic respite from our reigning hellscape, Miller says of Wet Satin’s intentions: “We started writing this album during a pretty bleak and heavy time, which I guess sort of sounds like ‘we started writing this album on a Wednesday’ now, but that's sort of the point too. There's an endless buffet of suffering you have a lifetime pass to gorge yourself on whenever you want it, but there's also a lesser-known dance club attached where you can work off some of those doom calories. Music has the ability to alter your environment and take you somewhere else. We genuinely had a lot of fun writing and recording this. The process fell somewhere in between over-indulgence and necessary catharsis, but it achieved a kind of balance in the end. It's a travel brochure for a very specifically peculiar psychological terrain. We think you'll have fun there. A towering body of work that feels both apocalyptic and jubilant, ‘Three’ is Throw Down Bones’ eagerly-awaited return following 2018’s ‘Two’ and the tragic passing of founding member Dave Cocks in a motorcycle accident in 2019. Choosing to continue the band in honour of Cocks, in February 2020, surviving co-founder Francesco Vanni returned to London’s New River Studios with long-term collaborator and producer James Aparicio (Spiritualized, Nick Cave) and a new band in tow, made up of bassist Marion Andrau and drummer Raphael Mura.

Working in the studio with the new band for the first time, several hours of improvised recordings were captured over the course of those early New River sessions, which were then expanded and pieced together between Aparicio in London and Vanni in Milan. Ready to lacerate eardrums and send into a trance once more, the result is a 9-track album spanning feedback-blasted industrial psychedelia, heavy electronics, krautrock and dark ambient. Overcoming huge psychological and practical difficulties, ‘Three’ is a powerful and moving record in more ways than one - a post-industrial triumph that’s at once hedonistic, cathartic and poignant.

Describing ‘Three’ and its intentions, Vanni says: “This album tries to reverse the usual band-listener interaction. We hold no truth and we're not willing to serve any universal answers to anything. Instead, we question the listener who, according to their experiences and sensitivity, will find a reply for themselves. That's the role of instrumental music and why we love it so much. It brings the listener to the centre of the project, giving them an active role in translating music into meaning. Every single note in this album is dedicated to our brother Dave Cocks.”

Self-titled debut album from new Berlin via Brussels project Golden Hours, featuring past and present members of Gang of Four, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Tricky, The Fuzztones and The Third Sound. Determination and a commitment to musical development are writ large across Matt Burr’s personal and artistic journey as the main creative force behind The Black Delta Movement. His most collaborative work yet, ‘Recovery Effects’ sees Matt recruiting highly lauded UK guitar-slinger and Little Barrie frontman Barrie Cadogan and bandmates Lewis Wharton (Bass) and Tony Coote (Drums) to provide musical backing on the album. With legendary producer, The Heliocentrics’ co-founder and drummer extraordinaire Malcolm Catto also helming production duties.

“The album’s a love letter to the band and all the emotions that come with it,” explains Matt when talking about the period of adversity that led to its creation. Finding himself without his former bandmates following the release of their highly-praised 2018 debut ‘Preservation’ and that record’s subsequent live shows, the pandemic-induced lockdown periods throughout ’20 and ’21 initially gave time for reflection before proving to be a time of productivity. Giving Matt the breathing space to fine-tune the new songs alongside Cadogan before hitting the ground running when entering the studio in late 2021 – the band cutting the basic tracks live and Malcolm Catto providing invaluable input when it came to moulding the music you hear contained throughout

The results of this creative melting pot of such talented and seasoned musicians see The Black Delta Movement delivering that ring thing: a layered, honest and deeply entertaining rock’n’roll record. A departure from the band’s DIY psych-rock roots to a more mature and polished sound, the album was produced by Mattiel’s Jonah Swilley and recorded in May 2019 at Detroit’s acclaimed (and rumored haunted) Masonic Temple with Bill Skibbe (Jack White, The Kills) in a lodge belonging to the Free Masons’ Detroit chapter.

“Western Mystery Tradition was conceived in the winter of 2019 amidst a polar vortex in Detroit, Michigan”, Moonwalks recall of the record’s origins: “At the time and in between touring, we lived together in a house on the west side that lacked a working stove and had no power in half of the building. The new record from husband and wife duo Lisa and Dustin Zozaya, their first since 2019, is released September 1st 2023 via Fuzz Club. Introducing a new, more collaborative side, ‘Comrade’ marks a whole new chapter for Routine Death – the project expanded to include other collaborators in the scene around them and explore the possibilities to be found in camaraderie. The result journeys through washed-out lo-fi dream-pop and shoegaze walls-of-sound, by way of ethereal drones, glitched-out electronics and new experiments with samples and field recordings.

Routine Death originally chronicled the joint life of Lisa and Dustin as they went from complete separation to integration. The band’s debut, ‘Parallel Universes’ (2018), was recorded entirely at a distance: with Dustin living in Austin TX (where he co-founded and formerly played in Holy Wave) and Lisa in Gothenburg. The second effort, ‘2 Weeks to 4 Months’ (2019), reflected the uncertain time dealing with immigration as Dustin prepared to leave the US and having the state involved in an intimate relationship. Now completely based together in Gothenburg, they decided it was time to start collaborating with other musicians and delve deeper into different approaches to music.

- - - - - - - - - - -

Brooklyn duo return with their fifth album 'Interiors', due out October 13th via Fuzz Club. The 8 songs on ‘Interiors’ synthesise all of the band’s past work while pushing forward into the future. It’s Jared Artaud and Brian MacFadyen’s darkest and most visionary work yet. Ethereal metallic synths and blistering electronics are driven by disco-on-downers dance beats lashed with gutter-rock guitar riffs and icy detached vocals with evocatively concise and lacerating lyrics.

Recorded over many sleepless nights and amphetamine-fueled mornings in the project’s isolated Brooklyn bunker home studios, the album follows the band’s minimal is maximal aesthetic coalescing into dark bedroom anthems for loners and lovers with nods to 70s/80s punk and nightclub music ala Joy Division, Iggy Pop’s The Idiot, Depeche Mode, and New Order. On the lead single “Amnesia,” Jared Artaud says "It’s about dealing with duality and integrating the conflicting feelings within a relationship. Five tracks spanning 45 minutes, ‘Jenseits’ is the band’s response to the modern dystopian world we now inhabit – taking on a heavier and even darker tone than what came before. “Everywhere, everything feels on the verge of collapse. Talking about the record, guitarist J. The motorik beat has always been about pushing towards the horizon, the sense of perpetual forward momentum. A wall-of-sound whirlwind. An homage in overdrive. A bittersweet, conversational number. A kaleidoscopic string section. A head-on collision between krautrock and good ol’ rock & roll. Originally recorded over two sessions back in 2013 – one over a harsh Berlin winter in the Brian Jonestown Massacre studio with Fabien Leseure, and a second back in Leeds with early Telescopes producer Richard Formby – it’s a lost treasure that nearly never was. Succumbing to a hard-drive crash nearly a decade ago, the sessions were presumed lost and soon forgotten, until now. Miraculously rescued from the digital ether and finished by founding member Stephen Lawrie in his own studio over the pandemic, the album is now finally set for release in February 2024 via Fuzz Club and reveals another side to where The Telescopes were at in 2013.

Where their physical output at the time mostly consisted of experimental noise improvisations, so far removed from any obvious structure, ‘Growing Eyes Becoming String’ shows how The Telescopes – Lawrie backed by London experimental unit One Unique Signal – were actually creating more song-based music in a parallel existence. Across its seven tracks are all the trademarks of quality that longtime fans associate with The Telescopes’ music. Solid songs, melody, harmony, noise, dissonance, improvisation, experimentation and an all-embracing journey beyond the realm of natural vision.

“The objective with both sessions was to go in blind and be entirely in the moment”, Lawrie recalls: “There were no preconceived ideas, everything was written as it went along. The long-awaited follow-up to 2018’s ‘Babble’ and 2020’s ‘All Together Now’, it’s a record that finds Beans frontman (and The Murlocs drummer) Matt Blach putting percussion at centre-stage. “I’ve always wanted to make a drum-based album, dedicated around the beat first and then everything else follows”, Blach says, explaining his desire to explore “different production approaches, like hip-hop and crunched drums, and show an admiration and appreciation for the likes of The Meters, Wu-Tang and James Brown” as much as the acid-soaked 60s/70s rock you’d expect.

What emerges from the beat-first approach on ‘Boots N Cats’ charts mutant garage-rock boogies ('Groove', 'Silhouette') and festival tent psychedelia ('Haunted', 'Dreaming Daisy'), by way of blissed-out funk instrumentals ('One To Four', 'Siamese Blundstone'). The line is constantly skirted between a loose, carefree vibe and interesting, meticulous musicianship – never falling into the trap of taking itself too seriously. It’s a sunny kaleidoscope of chugging guitars, driving bass-lines, soaring organs and warm, echo-soaked vocals – driven always by the tightly-wound rhythms and grooves that Blach has been in pursuit of since he was a kid: “The title of the album comes from me learning drums from my dad. Recorded live to tape at Black Mountain Studios in Summer 2023 and produced by Gilla Band's Daniel Fox, it's a collection of turbulent electronic psych-rock shaped by bulldozing motorik synth lines, densely layered guitars, primal percussion and the cavernous vocals of frontman Eoin Kenny. While their highly-praised 2022 debut ‘Maelstrom’ dealt with forces on a larger scale affecting a whole city, ‘Field Theory’ explores connections on a smaller, interpersonal scale.

The title takes the scientific term ‘Field Theory’, which describes how forces interact and influence particles around them, and applies it to the interactions between people, to the space between all of us, how people interact and affect others around them. Expanding on the album’s themes, MELTS write: “Like gravity we are drawn to and miss people and like light waves we love people and are loved. We live in orbits of each other, drawn by unseen forces. The album explores these forces, how we relate to each other, the people we live with and the people we live without. At the heart of Field Theory lies the realisation that we inhabit each other's worlds as much as our own, through a field of wide-ranging forces, as important as the ones keeping the planets in place.”

Made up by Robbie Brady (Organ and Synth), Hugh O'Reilly (Guitar), Gaz Earle (Drums) and Eoin Kenny (Lead Vocals), MELTS have spent the last couple of years touring across Europe, The UK, The US and Ireland, including festival appearances at Wide Awake and SXSW. Outside of their own headline dates, they have also toured with Fontaines D.C. and supported Gilla Band and Public Image Ltd. Across the album's ten tracks and rapid 26-minute running time, the band revel in an abrasive, fun-as-hell rock'n'roll that will leave your bones rattling just as much as your speakers.

Emerging out of the rubble of the now-defunct Liverpool bands Weird Sex and Ohmns, YOBS was kick-started in 2022 and is made up of Joey Ackland (Vocals), Alex Smith (Bass/Vocals), Michael Quinlan (Guitar/Vocals) and George Gebbie (Drums). Their debut full-length – recorded in four days at Hackney Road Studios with “our master and mate” James Aparicio – arrives off the back of a 2023 spent playing rowdy, ear-ringing shows with the likes of A Place To Bury Strangers, Mark Sultan, C.O.F.F.I.N, Alien Nosejob and more. The songs on the album have been hardened by YOBS' riotous live shows, delivered on the record with a gusto that yearns to be experienced in dingy venues as Ackland writhes around the stage and entangles himself with a mic lead.

'Fortune Teller', a roller-coaster of high-energy riffs and pounding drums, began life as a warm-up in practice, before evolving live and then being committed to tape. The stomping lead single 'Wasted' was the first song YOBS wrote together and became an instant live favourite, the gang-vocal chorus often screamed back at them by their inebriated crowd. "This one was inspired by a heavy weekend at a festival I played in another band", Ackland recalls of the aptly-titled single: "We had over-indulged a bit and after crawling to a portaloo, I ended up getting stuck in there for what seemed like a year. Every time I tried to leave I couldn’t find my way out. I ended up sat on the floor, giving myself a bit of a talking to."

While often inspired by and perfectly suited to boozy high-jinks, the 'YOBS' LP doesn't shy away from more serious and angered subject matter. The caustic noise-rocker 'Cyanide' is inspired by the tragic story of scientist and mathematician Alan Turing, driven to poisoning himself by a homophobic establishment and legal system – the song "written from the angle of one of the angry mob who stalked him, and stopped him living a normal life." Elsewhere, the gnarly 'Head The Ball' – the heaviest cut on the album, bordering on hardcore territory – takes aim at sneering middle-class elitism: "We never aimed to be a political band, but it’s pretty hard not to be influenced by the growing populism and this yearning to be an elitist. It's gross isn't it? So, this is saying fuck you to them. Over the last few years they’ve toured heavily around Europe, performed shows in South Africa and USA and appeared at a number of independent festivals including New Colossus, The Great Escape, Eurosonic and more.

Long-awaited new album from Australian psych/rock heavyweights ORB, 'Tailem Bend', out now on Fuzz Club. The Geelong-forged trio last graced us with a studio offering in the form of 2018’s characteristically heady ‘The Space Between’, before touring Europe and America back-to-back supporting King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard in 2019. But time rarely passes as expected, whether slowed by pandemics, side pursuits or other vagaries of daily life. What’s important is that a fourth album is finally here, with enough byways and trapdoors to keep us well occupied indeed.

Saturated in vintage warmth and depth, ‘Tailem Bend’ showcases ORB’s knack for achieving tuneful hypnosis amidst a dank roominess. It snakes through big, brash riffing as often as it does sun-dappled psych pop, with memorable rhythmic runs and funky wah licks along the way. As signalled by the cover artwork from Parsnip’s Paris Richens – which depicts either a swan or a fish, depending on how you look at it – ORB have returned with an album that rewards taking it in from multiple angles. There’s plenty of the band we know and love, but there’s also enough of the new to prompt a healthy succession of double takes.

There are still the inevitable avalanches of fuzz, but also present now are mellower passages and a renewed focus on rhythm and space. It’s not a wholesale departure, but it’s distinctive enough to be reflected in the album title itself. The source? Tailem Bend is a quiet town in South Australia whose name was evocative enough to catch the band’s collective eye on tour. Conjuring images for them of some lost prog act, the name reportedly derives from the Ngarrindjeri word “thelim”, referring to a sharp bend in the nearby Murray River. That made it especially suited to a record that packs many dramatic turns of its own – all without breaking its natural flow.

Track-list: 1) Tailem Bend 2) Karma Comes 3) Can't Do That 4) Golden Arch 5) Skyclock 6) You Do 7) Morph 8) Commandment

- - - - - - - - - - - -

New album from Radar Men From The Moon, 'Vomitorium', out August 16th. These are drifting, pastoral meditations rooted in the “joy and rhythms” of Eastern music and one of the most precious luxuries of our time: doing things slowly. Italian multi-instrumentalist Alessio Ferarri’s third Upupuyāma record and first on Fuzz Club finds inspiration in traditional Bhutanese music, Thai disco and Anatolian psych, by way of the lysergic acid-folk, ‘70s kosmische and stoner-rock that has always coursed through the project – dream-like instrumentals always threatening to breakdown into blasts of fuzzed-out riffing.

“Mount Elephant was born out of a need to listen, to listen to silence”, Ferrari says: “Listening to the silence while observing flowers, while moving your hands in the wind, listening to your body while you are dancing. If in my first album ('Upupayāma') I had travelled the length and breadth of a place, in the second ('The Golden Pond') I had reached one and stopped there, in this third album I set out again, crossing a border and entering a long-dreamed place that I could finally ‘see with my own eyes’.”

A six-piece band live, where things take a more ever-evolving improvisation-based approach, on the recordings Ferrari writes, plays and records everything himself – guitars, keys, flute, sitar, erhu and an arsenal of percussion all feature. The recordings were laid down over time in Ferrari's home barn studio in a small mountain village overlooking the city of Parma, before being mixed by Chris Smith at Kluster Sounds (Kikagaku Moyo, Wax Machine).

“Musically speaking, I find it a paradoxical record because, although it uses a lot more fuzz than the previous albums, I find it a more relaxed record with more rhythm. I used a lot more percussion than before – such as congas, bongos, and cowbells – and I use them in a freer, more playful way. I can't stand it when people say ‘it's a more mature record etc’, I don't find any sense in it, it seems like we are on this planet to ripen like apples or tomatoes. On the contrary, I think that Mount Elephant is a much more childish album than the first two and I am very proud of that.”

‘Moon Needs the Wolf’ opens the album with the sort of musical journey that shapes many of the songs on the album, starting out in a soft psych-folk setting stripped back to just acoustic guitar, sitar and flute: “This song came to me one night with the acoustic guitar in the woods, remembering when, during the lockdown, I could hear the wolves howling in the woods near home.” For all that the song starts out on a hushed footing, though, soon a lively, wah-riding motorik groove kicks in that takes the song to almost dancey heights before eventually breaking down in a disorientating clash of blown-out soloing and scattered percussion.

The soaring ‘Thimpu’ was written whilst Ferrare went down a rabbit hole of seeking out obscure traditional Bhutanese music. “I would love to visit Bhutan one day and this song is one way to imagine myself there. ‘Thimpu’ is the mispronounced name of the capital, which would be Thimphu.” Elsewhere ‘Fil Dağı’ (‘Elephant Mountain’ in Turkish) taps into the project’s Anatolian influences, expanding on a song that first appeared on his 2020 debut: “I like to think of this song as a Green Cabana II. I often find myself imagining people dancing to our songs around a fire in the middle of nature and this one makes me think about it the most.”

Then there is the sprawling, 10-minute ‘Moon Needs The Owl’, a psychedelic world-disco groove that uplifts in its first half before slowly fading out in a sublime, winding haze as all good parties should: “This song is set in a Thai disco in the 70s with all these people smashing things (I recorded myself smashing empty wine bottles), messing around having fun and laughing, then the night gives way to dawn and everyone walks home.”

Following the atmospheric interlude ‘Dabadaba’ (“I wanted to play around with the flute and this huge shamanic drum with a sound so low that it makes your stomach vibrate every time you hit it”), the album closes out with title-track ‘Mount Elephant’. A song which perhaps perfectly captures the odyssey-like quality of this record: sublime tranquillity descending into a heads-down wig-out of epic proportions: “The first part of this song is a meditation on this endless mountain called Mount Elephant that cannot be found on any map. The second part is a fuzz bath that live, in our intentions, should blow the amplifiers.”

Track-list: 1) Moon Needs The Wolf 2) Thimpu 3) Fil Dağı 4) Moon Needs The Owl 5) Dabadaba 6) Mount Elephant

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0892/6734/files/Cover_949492a0-8c3c-4574-aa59-82cbe2d4efd9.jpg?v=1720793857
black-doldrums-in-limerence
Black Doldrums - In Limerence

Second album from London gothic post-punk trio Black Doldrums, 'In Limerence'. Once described by Uncut as "a fierce combination of post-punk, reverb, drone and melody", their moody gothic post-punk is at its purest and most atmospheric here. Co-produced by Theo Verney (English Teacher, TRAAMS, Egyptian Blue), the record is due for release October 18th 2024 on Fuzz Club. Seeking a cleaner, more direct sound that still captured the whirlwind intensity of their live shows, Black Doldrums' familiar darkwave and shoegaze influences are contrasted here against breezy, shimmering "goth-pop" moments.

The follow-up to their 2022 debut album 'Dead Awake' stays true to the band's spirit whilst pushing things forward in a way that feels timeless and more meaningful, and brings with it a newfound clarity and lyrical honesty. Delving into themes of regret, loneliness, confusion and obsession, it's little wonder that the album title is 'In Limerence' – a state of intense, all-consuming romantic longing. The band (comprised of founding members Kevin Goddard [guitar/vocals] and Sophie Landers [drums] alongside new bassist Daniel Armstrong) say of the new album: "There is a constant theme of trying to find happiness in a confusing modern world. Crafted in a landscape where time and space collapse, the record is Electric Eye's most ambitious and experimental project to date. Originally commissioned by Sildajazz – the Haugesund International Jazz Festival – and premiering there in 2022, ‘Dyp Tid’ (Norwegian for ‘Deep Time’) is both a meditative journey and an exploration of what it means to exist in a universe where time stretches far beyond humanity’s grasp.

First performed live in Skåre Kirke, an octagonal wooden church in Haugesund, Norway that was built in 1858, these six atmospheric compositions centre church organs, synths and choral vocals over any traditional ‘rock’ instrumentation. Gradually winding through ambient minimalism, kosmische improvisations and experimental psych-jazz, ‘Dyp Tid’ isn’t just an album but a space; a mental landscape where sound and time intersect. Talking about the album, Electric Eye’s Øystein Braut says: “We have always been drawn to the cinematic, to the sense that something feels larger than life, and in Dyp Tid we wove these elements together into something both deeply personal and utterly elusive.”

Setting up in Bergen´s Duper Studio, the recording space became a laboratory to further develop these new ideas and transform the ‘Dyp Tid’ piece into a fully-fledged studio album: “We delved into analogue technology, explored vintage machines, and experimented with what lay at the edge of our control. We sought the sound of time’s depths, something that felt infinite and uncontrollable. In an age where everything seems algorithmic and predictable, we aimed to create something that refused to be boxed in – something that lives and breathes by its own rules. The album intricately weaves together live recordings from the wooden church and studio sessions, often oscillating between the two in the course of a single track.”

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0892/6734/files/Artwork_a3d4aca7-0f08-4a5c-a8d3-46979a64047d.jpg?v=1726655751
splitterzelle-splitterzelle
Splitterzelle - Splitterzelle

Available on 180g Clear Blue Vinyl, limited to 350 hand-numbered copies and exclusive to the Fuzz Club store and Membership. Pounding sub-bass and dark electronic textures are at the forefront here, finding a middle ground between club-ready industrial techno heaviness and droning psychedelic noise.

Following their solo projects' collaboration on 2021’s Tren Go! Sound System & Ornamental 'Assessment' LP and a few Portuguese and German tours, Sidney and Pedro soon came to realise a new band was bubbling away and officialised their partnership in 2023 with the emergence of Splitterzelle. Starting out as a guitar and drums duo, their time together and also perhaps the geographical circumstances of living in different countries allowed them the freedom to explore radically different creative approaches between 2024's live session album 'The Drumhard Sessions Vol. 1' and the full-throttle electronics of the the incoming 'Splitterzelle' LP:

"Out of several recording sessions came the collaborative Drumhard Sessions Vol. 1 and this self-titled LP. However, both of these couldn't be more further apart in approach. Where DHSV1 was performed and recorded live in the studio with no overdubs, the S/T LP is the exact opposite with overproduced layers of sound, sub bass and ear candy all the time. The modus operandi was pretty much to record and jam whenever a possibility arose when we were together on tour and then work on the material in our separate home studios once we returned."

- - - - - - - - - - - - - -

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0892/6734/files/Artwork_b276e3b8-dd72-4b98-8920-f5541229db94.jpg?v=1729782439
