Baby Cool release new single and video 'Daydream'

Ahead of the release of her debut album next month, Brisbane, Australia-based artist Baby Cool has revealed the new single and video, ‘Daydream’. Marrying psychedelic pop with folk and a touch of country, Baby Cool is a new project by Nice Biscuit co-front woman Grace Cuell. Following recent singles ‘Poison’, ‘The Sea’ and ‘Magic’, ‘Daydream’ is the latest peek into the incoming ‘Earthling On The Road To Self Love’ album - due out February 10th via Bad Vibrations (UK/EU), Virgin Music Australia and Greenway Records/Levitation (US). Stream 'Daydream' below and pre-order the LP here.

Out today, ‘Daydream’ is a cosmic country slow-burner that gradually builds into a gloriously distorted and cathartic finale, the song fading out as Grace repeats the line ‘Life is but a daydream fading away’. “I wrote this song about coming through the other side of a big event that leaves your life completely altered. For me, these events don’t always offer clarity after the dust settles, and there’s an ache in this that is difficult to bear sometimes. The aftermath of anything big always circles back to the same feelings for me - that life is intense and weird so we may as well love as hard as we can.”

“I wanted the album to end with something big and chaotic. I remember the feeling when the arrangement finally matched what I had been envisioning in my head for so long. Sam Joseph, who was responsible for recording the album, played the pedal steel on this track (as well as others on the record), and it’s my favourite part of the whole record. The rest of the track was performed by Jess Ferronato (drums), Drew Heyden (keys) and Nick Cavendish (bass). I was so lucky to work alongside such incredible musicians to bring this whole thing to life.”

Detailing the incoming album as a whole, Grace adds: “The songs on ‘Earthling On The Road To Self Love’ are deeply sentimental. I have a lot I need to sing about to help me make sense of this earthly pod I have been gifted. If in singing these words out loud, I can help others find solace in knowing that we’re all out here flailing about in the cosmos, then it feels good to me. I had such a beautiful community of friends that helped bring this whole thing to life. There was magic and love in every part of the process of creating this album.”
