Introducing Rubber Duck, a new live album imprint brought to you by Fuzz Club!
The name is inspired by the underground Rubber Dubber bootleg label that emerged out of the US in the late 60s – committing guerilla live recordings from Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young to wax, before the feds and major labels inevitably rained down and forced them to disappear by '73.
Our tag-line is also a nod to the Los Angeles bootleg label Trade Mark of Quality (TMOQ), established at a similar time in 1970 and responsible for high-quality live albums from a heap of greats including Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Jefferson Airplane, Devo, Grateful Dead, The Beatles, Frank Zappa and The Who.
The debut Rubber Duck release comes in the shape of 'Live In Berlin' by Portuguese trio 10 000 Russos! Limited to 500 copies, 'Live In Berlin' arrives as a 180g black vinyl double LP with an etched D-side and hand-numbered gatefold jacket. You can pre-order the LP here.
The record captures the band storming through their subterranean motorik psych live at Berlin’s Astra Kulturhaus on October 16th 2021. Recorded whilst out on a European tour, ‘Live In Berlin’ finds 10 000 Russos performing their 2021 ‘Superinertia’ LP in full – the album's five songs expanded and taken to even more hypnotic and hedonistic heights in a live setting.
These shows were 10 000 Russos’ first with the new, more-electronic line-up and sound, with newly-recruited synth player Nils Meisel making his debut on the ‘Superinertia’ LP and completing the line-up alongside founding members João Pimenta (drums/vocals) and Pedro Pestana (guitar). Across the hour-long set, Pimenta’s deadpan sprechgesang vocal and machine-like percussion, Pestana's cascading psych guitar loops and Meisel’s repetitive synth basslines all combine on a performance that will pull you into a trance at times and get you on your feet at others.
