Helicon announce third album 'God Intentions' out April 28 on Fuzz Club. New single 'Flume' out now

Glasgow outfit Helicon are today announcing their third album ‘God Intentions’ and sharing the lead single ‘Flume’. A masterclass in cinematic psychedelia, ‘God Intentions’ is due out April 28th on Fuzz Club and is Helicon’s most ambitious and collaborative album to date. Arriving following their 2020 album ‘This Can Only Lead To Chaos’, you can stream the first taste of the new record, ‘Flume’, and its accompanying music video below and pre-order the LP here.

‘God Intentions’ was recorded at Dystopia, Glasgow with producers Luigi Pasquini and Jason Shaw, mastered by RIDE’s Mark Gardener and includes contributions from the Rhona MacFarlane String Quartet, Lavinia Blackwall (Trembling Bells), Mark O’Donnell (Tomorrow Syndicate), Sotho Houle (French avant-garde violinist) and Anna McCracken. Talking about the new record, guitarist/vocalist John-Paul Hughes says:

“‘God Intentions’ is inspired by my brother Gary's story and a few other influences. It's a journey through regret, redemption and resurrection. Our familiar darkness is there, but the record carries a fresh and uplifting positivity. I had a clear idea of how I wanted it to sound and feel long before it began. We're so pleased we achieved it. We managed to hold true to the idea whilst allowing the string quartet, Sotho, Lavinia, Anna, Mark, Jason, Luigi and other collaborators the space to put their mark on it. The album art, by San Francisco based collage artist Nina Theda Black, captures the depth and breadth of themes and sounds we brought together to create a kind of motion in your mind.”

On lead single ‘Flume’, out today, John-Paul adds: “The first single 'Flume' is a downward spiral where you finish at the top. Like a helter-skelter in reverse. All swirling, swooping, repeater fuzz guitars, grooving bass lines, pounding drums and vintage philicorda melodies. With our old friend, Anna McCracken, on backing vocals.”

Alongside the album news, Helicon are also announcing an album release show at Glasgow’s Stereo on May 27. They’ll be performing ‘God Intentions’ in its entirety alongside special guests Rhona MacFarlane String Quartet, Lavinia Blackwall, Mark O’Donnell, Anna McCracken and more. Tickets are on sale here.
