Perth band share the latest single from the the incoming 'Centre' LP, due out February 26th
Australian five-piece Mt. Mountain are today releasing ‘Peregrination’, the second single from their forthcoming ‘Centre’ album which is due for release February 26th via Fuzz Club. Hailing from Perth, Australia, Mt. Mountain deal in a sprawling, motorik sound that journeys between tranquil, drone-like meditations and raucous, full-throttle wig-outs. Clocking in at seven minutes, you can stream the soaring and hypnotic ‘Peregrination’ below.
The Mt. Mountain sound is born out of long improvised jams so, naturally, much of the incoming album was recorded in a live setting in order to capture the band at their most freewheeling. ‘Peregrination’, out today, articulates their creative approach perfectly (the title itself meaning a long, meandering journey.) The result is a slow-building ensemble of shuffling percussion and Krautrock rhythms, masterfully interwoven with cascading reverb-soaked guitars and lulling flutes that lure the song into acid-folk territory.
They say of the song: “‘Peregrination’ is a classic example of how we write together. Songs like this one generally start off as a ‘jam song’ that evolves slowly over months of playing with no real direction in place until it finds its own structure. At the end of recording, the path to get there has been stretched so long that there is barely any recollection of how the song came into existence in the first place.”
