“The lyrics to Morast are inspired by a slowly dying poinsettia which I tried to save by watering it too much. That sped up the process of the plant dying instead of saving it. The chorus ‘Die Pflanzen sind verwelkt’ means ‘The plants have withered’. The moist soil reminded me of the moors in the rural area where I grew up and the decay of the plant I nurtured to death worked as a strong image for some kind of loss I really wanted to avoid. With AANK we left behind a phase where we would mostly improvise and started something new by writing songs and using vocals on a record for the first time. To stay in the picture, the album was a fresh sprout and a new beginning that felt strange and fragile at first but we keep on growing with it.”
