Engineered and co-produced by Charles Godfrey (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Swans), the record blends heavy psychedelia, post-metal drones, meditative drums, and raw distorted riffs. Across these eight equally pulverising and ethereal tracks, the result is a powerful, atmospheric and reverberating wall of sound that indulges SKLOSS’ heaviest and gentlest sonic impulses all at once.
SKLOSS first formed in Austin, TX as a husband-and-wife duo between drummer Karen Skloss and guitarist Sandy Carson during the COVID lockdown. Surrounded by drums and amps and the need to play loud, the sonic sound of SKLOSS became a response to the crazy world just outside their window. Jams became songs, while the noise level, experimentation and distortion went up to a volume much louder than you’d expect from a duo.
“Living next to the woods has something to do with it. We started to use music as an outlet, like most everyone during that time, we were so cooped up,” says Skloss: “The Pattern Speaks is a message in a bottle, a cosmic plea for assistance from the stars, space aliens, or non-human intelligence. It also hints at a way out of our self-made cycles of drudgery and inhumanity.”
In support of 'The Pattern Speaks, today SKLOSS are kicking off a 10 day marathon of album release shows, in-stores and SXSW showcases in Texas, with UK/EU shows lining up for May including the Fuzz Club Festival and the London warm-up party at Moth Club! Tickets here
