New remix arrives right off the back of news on Saccades' very first run of live shows this August
Arriving off the back of his highly-praised new album ‘Flowing Fades’, Manchester-based musician Saccades (the solo project of The KVB’s Nicholas Wood) is now announcing a run of UK dates and sharing a new remix courtesy of Peaking Lights. On this remix, the Amsterdam-based electronic duo – who last year released their ‘E S C A P E’ LP on Dekmantel, as well as the ‘Walking With You’ single as part of Mexican Summer’s Looking Glass series – transform Saccades’ ‘Lady Blue’ into a spaced-out, dub-infused daydream. You can stream the remix and find the tour-dates below. 'Flowing Fades' is available available to buy on vinyl here.
Talking about the ‘Lady Blue’ remix, Wood says: “I've been a fan of Peaking Lights since the release of their album "936" in 2011 and have been wanting to get a remix from them for quite some time. The end result is exactly what I wanted - hypnotic and dubby goodness.” Peaking Lights’ Aaron Coyes adds: “It was a pleasure working on this Saccades mix. I’m a fan of Nicholas’ other project The KVB so I was keen to have a listen to the new project... and what a great listen it was! The thing I dig about these tracks is that there is already so much great material to work with, which let me approach this as more of a production - blasting it with reverb and delays, tripping it the f*ck out but still keeping in the original elements and getting dubby.”
Nicholas Wood is best known for making up one half of the post-punk/coldwave duo The KVB with his wife Kat Day. Signed to Geoff Barrow of Portishead and Beak’s Invada Records, over the last ten years the critically-acclaimed duo have picked up a loyal international fanbase and toured pretty much non-stop around Europe, North and Latin America, Asia and South Africa. His second solo album under the Saccades moniker was released April 9th via Fuzz Club and trades The KVB’s minimal walls-of-sound for a world of blissed-out synths, languid carefree guitars, dreamy vocals and influences that range from J.G. Ballard and Serge Gainsbourg to 80s dream pop and yacht-rock.
“I began to properly work on ‘Flowing Fades’ after returning from The KVB’s North American Tour in late 2019, my head filled with new inspiration for this project and a clear idea on how this album should sound”, Wood recalls: “I wanted to create something soothing and immersive. Music for escapism, which can be listened to at sunrise or sunset. Even though it’s lighter and mellower than my usual output, I feel like there are strong hints of melancholia in there too, reflecting the world in which it was created.” With live music starting to return again, Wood has now announced his very first set of live shows with the Saccades project: a ‘Flowing Fades’ UK mini-tour kicking off on August 24th with stops in Manchester, Bristol, Leeds and London.
