The Jesus and Mary Chain's new live album 'Sunset 666' is out today!

The Jesus and Mary Chain are today releasing ‘Sunset 666’, a new live album recorded at the Hollywood Palladium in 2018 whilst they were touring North America with Nine Inch Nails. Out now on double LP vinyl, CD and digital via Fuzz Club, ‘Sunset 666’ sees the Reid brothers deliver a discography-spanning set that includes tracks from ‘Psychocandy’, ‘Darklands’, ‘Automatic’, ‘Honey’s Dead’, ‘Stoned and Dethroned’, ‘Munki’ and ‘Damage and Joy’. The seventeen tracks captured on ‘Sunset 666’ were recorded from the desk on two of the six nights at the Hollywood Palladium that the tour ended with. Sides A, B and C on the vinyl are from the final show, December 15. Those twelve songs were the full set that night, in sequence, meaning the show began with the Mary Chain classic ‘Just Like Honey’ and ended with the ferocious euphoria of an eight-and-a-half minute ‘Reverence’. 

That night Isobel Campbell would join the band on stage to lend vocals to two songs, ‘Black and Blues’ and ‘Sometimes Always’. On the latter, which saw Campbell doing the vocal that Hope Sandoval performed on the studio version, the band recalled that “It was the first time we'd performed that song for god knows how many years."

Side D is taken from the December 11 show and serves almost as a mini-showcase of the ‘Automatic’ album, featuring versions of ‘Blues From A Gun’, ‘Between Planets’ and ‘Half Way To Crazy’. “Sunset 666 includes a few of our favourite songs from ‘Automatic’ to play live”, the band wrote last month: “This version of Half Way To Crazy really gets the energy of that night.”

To celebrate the release of ‘Sunset 666’, The Jesus And Mary Chain are performing live at London’s Crystal Palace Bowl today alongside Primal Scream and The Black Angels as part of this year’s South Facing Festival.
