The Third Sound are today sharing the new single and video ‘Dissociation’, the final preview into the incoming ‘First Light’ LP aheads of its release on August 27th via Fuzz Club. Led by The Brian Jonestown Massacre guitarist Hákon Aðalsteinsson, The Third Sound are a Berlin-based band that deal in a hypnotic blend of neo-psychedelia, post-punk and new wave. You can stream ‘Dissociation’ and its accompanying video below.
Arriving following recent singles ‘Your Love Is Evol’ and ‘This Is The Only Way I Know’, the shadowy ‘Dissociation’ sees The Third Sound deal in a gothic-psychedelic post-punk sound that recalls the likes of Echo & The Bunnymen, The Chameleons and Sisters of Mercy. Talking about the track, Hakon said: “Dissociation is a song about the blurred lines between an altered state of mind and reality that seems to somehow follow your experience even more closely than it should. Leaving you feeling drawn to it and detached at the same time, only being able to see things from a distance.”
The follow-up to 2018’s ‘All Tomorrow’s Shadows’ LP, ‘First Light’ album marks an evolution into a brighter and at times uplifting sound. Marrying moments of light and dark, the result is the band’s most dynamic full-length to date: “This album is definitely less gloomy than the previous one, although some ghosts from the past are lurking in the background. We always try to make something new on each album and never make the same album over again, but this feels like an even bigger change than usual, especially regarding the mood. Something new is beginning although the past is not forgotten. I think the title, First Light, describes the overall feel of the record pretty well.”
